Treatment Model: "The Diamond"

4-step Diamond model for overcoming depression

Carrie's core specialty is helping people heal from depression and other emotional challenges. This is facilitated by her use of an integrative wellness model of counseling she calls "The Diamond."

This approach blends the benefits of cognitive therapy, behavior modification, relationship counseling, and spiritual interventions designed to help clients regain wholeness and wellbeing – not to simply manage or focus on external symptoms.

Using the Diamond is an excellent way for clients to first understand, and then overcome, their emotional challenges.

To learn more about the Diamond, a good introduction is a talk Carrie recorded for BYU Education Week in 2005, entitled "Christ-Centered Healing from Depression and Low Self-Worth." This talk has aired many times on television and radio. The transcript and other resources related to the talk can be found here.

While the talk primarily addresses depression, the principles and processes it discusses can be also applied to the healing process for anxiety, addiction, abuse, and many other challenges.  The talk describes the process Carrie uses in assessment and treatment. Clients wishing to meet with Carrie can be well-prepared by watching this talk, and applying its insights to their own experienceIt can also be a useful resource for others seeking to help themselves and others understand and work through various emotional challenges.
